The Borough 0f Emmaus, PA, an EHD client, was awarded second place in the 2014 Safety Awards for Risk Management, earning 122 points out of a possible 125 as tabulated in several safety categories.
The Borough was represented by two members of the safety committee at the award’s ceremony, which was part of the annual Susquehanna Municipal Trust meeting held on September 28.
According to the Borough Manager, the Borough was paying an exorbitant amount in workers’ compensation insurance due to its injury rate and the severity of reported injuries. In 2014, with a renewed focus on workplace safety and lower injury rates, workers’ comp costs fell to under $140,000, a 65% decline.
“This achievement is attributable to the hard work of the safety committee, department managers and all of our employees who have bought into the renewed focus on safety. Council is also to be recognized, as members have made sure that funds have been allotted to department and safety committee budgets allowing the purchase of needed safety equipment and gear,” he said.
“We should be very proud of this award, as we have worked very hard over the past several years to get to this point,” added the Borough Manager.
